Modern Accra has adequate educational facilities for its habitants. There are a number of prominent secondary schools on the outskirts of Accra. The Presbyterian Boy’s Secondary, popular as “Presec”, Achimota Secondary School that is commonly known as “Motown” is serving since 1927, Aburi Girls Secondary School that is popular as Abugiss is one of the prestigious girls boarding school in the country. St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School, popular as Quinas is also an iconic institution in Accra. Accra Academy i.e. Bleoo, Armed Forces Secondary Technical School, Kateco (Kaneshie Secondary Technical), Accra High (Ahisco) and many other institutions are taking part in promoting quality education in Accra. Ghana’s first Tertiary institution, the University of Ghana is also serving in the vicinity of Motown and Presec Secondary Schools. University of Ghana is situated about 13 Km north at Legon. Another tertiary school namely Ashesi university has been established in Accra. GIS (Ghana International School) is a private non-profit school that is operating since 1955 and the children aging between 3 to 18 years are eligible to take admission in this prestigious institution. Amongst aforesaid institutions, the Lincoln Community School is also striving to provide the best education to Accra youth being a privately owned non-profit institution. The Lincoln Community School was founded in 1968 and the students between 3 to 18 years of age are eligible to get enrollment there. American International School of Accra that is highly regarded institution is also serving in Accra and promoting quality education. Accra Academy senior high school is day as well as boarding boy school. This school which provides varity of courses in Science , Business, Arts and above all got the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate in Vocational Training Skills. Accra Academy was collaborate with the St. Mary Senior Secondary School to form ACASMA.
