Lady Nancy Astor once said, “I refuse to admit that I’m more than fifty-two, even if that does make my sons illegitimate.” The depth of devotion to defying age seems to be bone deep in many people. They will go to almost any lengths to deny their own birthday. They feel that the very worst thing they could do would be to admit that they’ve been around quite a while. They never have candles on their birthday cake for fear someone might count them.
Coco Chanel once said, “Nature gives you the face you have at twenty; it is up to you to merit the face you have at fifty.” There’s a wild amount of products in the cosmetic industry devoted to looking younger, increasing skin health, decreasing the ravages of time. Most of them don’t work, and some that do work are ridiculously expensive. Of course, Coco Chanel could afford it…and she probably got hers for free anyway.
